Bill Randa, played by John Goodman, manages to convince a member of the government to fund his expedition to an unknown island that people don't know it exists.

He gathers a crew of trackers, scientists, one photographer among a military team, and they are on their way.

The island is surrounded by a cloud which is trapped inside an electrical storm, and they barely made it on the other side.

Once on the island, they discover a new world of animals, and start dropping bombs to map the land. This awakens the protector of the island, King Kong, who destroys all of their helicopters.

They discover a man who was wrecked on the island since the 1940's, living among the natives who worship Kong who protects them from the large reptiles which eat them.

I liked it, the visuals were good, the acting also, but..the characters had no depth, there are two couples, sort of, because we see them circling each other but never really together, as if the makers didn't want a love story thrown in there in fear it might spoil the movie.

The characters aren't really fleshed out, we don't know much about them, except maybe that Toby Kebbell's character has a son he writes letters to, and Sam Jackson only feels alive when he goes on a mission.

Samuel Jackson's character has a personal vendetta with Kong as he finds him responsible for the death of his team and wants him dead at the risk of their own death because with Kong dead, the reptiles would eat them all.

I didn't get the Brie Larson and Kong connection, I guess it was supposed to be a remnant of the first King Kong falling for the beauty, but all in all I liked it.

The movie is streaming on HBO Max, and is for rent or buy on Amazon, Apple, Google, DirecTv, Redbox, Vudu, YouTube.

Rating : Worth a watch !
