The movie is based on the video game franchise Tomb Raider first released in 1996.
The movie starts with an action scene in which Lara is fighting a training robot,and her strength and capabilities are established.
On the 15th of May Lara is missing her father,and is commemorating his disappearance .That very night,she has a dream about him,in which he's telling her about the exact alignment of the planets activating a triangle,which occurs only once every 5000 years .
As she wakes up,she hears the ticking of a clock in a wall. She breaks it,and finds a clock. Checking it with her trusty friends and team,she finds out it's a camouflage for another, different, kind of clock hiding inside.
She goes to one of her father's friends to ask about what it could be,and the man notifies the villain about it,the villain who is after it,because he wants to rule the world.
The very same night she visited her father's friend,the villain's special ops team pays her a visit and wreck her house and almost kill them all in an attempt to get the mysterious clock.
The villain gets the clock,and this sets Lara on his tracks to get it back and to save the world.
The movie honestly had a ridiculous plot,but you can tell Angelina had fun playing in it. Sadly, the movie bored me.
I loved the fighting scenes,really great for that time,and I don't think anyone attempted any of the kind since.I loved the first one, and the home invasion one, in which Lara fights the intruders while suspended.
One of the things that bothered me was towards the end,when she fights the villain,the man is stabbed, but he can fight her and win,without any trouble.
The actors were good. I don’t know what kind of directions Angelina and Iain Glenn were given, but she’s always posing ( I understood that they had to tone down the character’s sexiness, so maybe that was her being sexy), while he is like a cartoon villain.
I didn’t like the music, which seemed it didn’t match whatever was on the screen.
The visual effects in certain scenes were good, in others you can tell it’s CGI.
The movie received negative reviews, with critics reviews under 33% on Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic, and under 59% audience reviews on the same platforms.
Cinema Score audiences graded it a B, while the IMDB audiences gave it a 5.8 out of 10.
It grossed almost 275 million dollars at the box office, against a budget of 115 million dollars, making the movie one of the highest grossing video-games adaptation.
Rating : Could have been a contender !
