The movie opens with Sarah being rescued in the US coast guard sector in Jacksonville, Florida.
Special agent Lidia Clarkson interrogates her about what happened. Sarah asks about her daughters, and she’s told they’re fine, and she’s gonna see them as soon as she tells them what happened.
Sarah tells the agent that she’s not gonna believe her when she’s gonna tell her what truly happened. She also says the evil needs a body to exist, and in this case it took the shape of the boat.
4 months earlier, in Savannah, Georgia, an abandoned vessel named Mary, is found.
Sarah’s husband, David, is the captain of a tourist ferry, who is sick of working for someone else, and wants to own his own boat. He goes with one of their friends, Mike, to check the boats for sale, and buys a shipwreck with the money he doesn’t have, telling Sarah when asked that they can sell the cars to pay for it (but they also need to renovate it, as they can’t even use the bathroom on it. And that’s only one of its problems as it has a rusted haul and torn sails)! Sarah accepts to go along with it, for she feels bad for cheating on David. For some unknown reason she apologizes to him for not believing in him, although they don’t have the money for it!
So they renovate the boat, and set sails with their friend and helper, Mike, and Tommy, their eldest daughter, Lindsey’s boyfriend. Soon Tommy starts acting weird, to the point ,one night he cuts himself and is trying to stab David. So they leave him in the next port.
At the same time, the youngest daughter, Mary, has an imaginary friend, a woman, whom she draws, but the drawings aren’t nice. Not just that, but Mary becomes antisocial, to the point she hits her sister in the head with a glass.
With Tommy out of the picture, Mike starts acting weird.
Things don’t go well for Sarah either, as she has vivid nightmares.
The movie started well, but lost itself, and lost my interest fast. I think that if it would have had more time to develop the story and the characters it would have made more sense and would have given more information, but just as it is, it’s a pretty boring, jump scare movie.
The acting was good, Emily Mortimer who played the mother was the best.
The soundtrack was good.
The visual effects were good.
The movie is really, one hour and 18 minutes.
The movie received negative reviews, with only a 4% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and a 31 score on Metacritic. Allegedly the movie made only a little over 700.000 dollars at the box office!
Rating : Could have been a contender !
