Agent Ethan Hunt of Mission : Impossible Force is retired and trains recruits. He is engaged to be married to Julia.
On the night of their engagement party, John Musgrave, one of his colleagues, calls him and asks him to meet, telling him one of his best recruits, Lindsey Farris, was taken by a ruthless arms dealer.
Although he refuses at first, Ethan, who lied to his fiance he works in transportation, takes the job,and goes on a rescue mission to Berlin with his former team.
They manage to rescue Lindsey, but she had a device implanted in her head, which once triggered, killed her within 5 minutes.
Bent on catching this arms dealer, Ethan marries Julia on fast forward, meaning in the hospital,on one of her work days, and leaves for the Vatican, where the broker is expected at an event.
The movie was entertaining, the action takes the leads all around the world, from Berlin to Shanghai.
The movie starts with the end and goes back to the beginning.
I personally find the love interest in such movies a crutch or a trope, and don't like them, as they always end up being the damsel in distress, the lead having to go rescue them from the kidnappers..which is exactly what happens in this movie.
The actors were all great, Tom Cruise is doing his own stunts as always.
The visual effects were good, so were the fighting / action scenes.
The soundtrack was Ok.
The movie which was in the works since 2002, is produced by Tom Cruise, and was written by J. J. Abrams, Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman.
The movie received positive reviews (with a 73% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and a 66 score on Metacritic), being considered better than the previous movies of the franchise.
Cinema Score audiences graded the movie an A-.
It grossed 398.5 million dollars at the box office, against a budget of 150 million dollars, being the 8th highest grossing movie of 2006, but ironically, being the lowest grossing movie of the franchise!
David Fincher was first asked to direct, before dropping out in favour of the Zodiac movie, and cast actors like Kenneth Branagh, Carrie Anne Moss and Scarlett Johansson.
Thandiwe Newton refused to play in the sequel.
Rating : Worth a watch !
