The movie was inspired by the articles of Shann Jones on her experience as an undercover student in San Francisco's George Washington High School, in 1992!
Josie is a very smart journalist. Her dream is to go undercover and write a hit piece. She is finally given a chance when the big boss chooses her to go undercover as a teenager at a high school.
She then remembers that high school wasn’t her best years.
At first she pretty much fails at everything, like making friends with the cool kids (she did make friends with the “brains”),dressing a certain way,the car;but with the help of her brother who goes undercover too,she becomes popular.
This was one of my favorite movies growing up .Now it felt bitter sweet, and Mr Coulson still was the best character in there.
I didn’t understand why was she dating the kid when she was obviously not into him. Also,I didn’t feel the attraction between them,it felt the kid was just saying so without feeling it,as whenever they were together he never tried anything, not even to kiss her. It looked more like a guy who wasn’t into her. Which I can’t say about the teacher, who was obviously into her.
The movie was funny and entertaining, and it also came with heart, something the Hollywood movies of today are lacking.
The acting was good, Drew was funny, adorable, silly...her character was still innocent, although 25.Speaking of which Drew Barrymore (who ironically was 24 in 1999!) and David Arquette (who was 28 in 1999!) seemed to have been in their 30's,they definitely didn't look like teenagers .
The soundtrack was good, the songs chosen for the movie were popular at the time. The only song which didn't match was The Cardigans with 'Erase/Rewind' as they played it as the King/Queen slow dance song, and that song is not a romantic, slow dance song!
The movie got mixed reviews, but gained a cult following, and made 85 million dollars at the box office, against a budget of 25 million.
Rating : It's so money !
