A woman is found wondering the streets of Los Angeles while repeating the word 'David'.

She is taken to the psychiatric ward of a hospital in a catatonic state. The doctor gives her something to relax, and to be able to speak. As the shot kicks in, she recounts her ex lover whom she loved very much and wanted to marry, but he just didn't love her that way, he just used her. She keeps on making a fool of herself whenever she sees him, telling him how much she loves him, thinking he does love her and doesn't show it or know it.

Louise worked as a live-in nurse for the Grahams. Missus Graham is bed ridden and she thinks every woman who takes care of her is having an affair with her husband, so she tells Louise to her face she knows she is having an affair with her husband, thing she doesn't.

Later on, missus Graham is found dead in the lake, and her daughter comes home for the funeral, from school. She tells Louise she knows she's been having an affair with her father, for her mother wrote her so!

Ironically, after 3 months, mister Graham confesses his feelings to Louise asking her to marry him. Louise accepts after she sees David ,who works with mister Graham,as she stayed to take care of his young son.

Seeing David still mistreats her, disconsidering her feelings, who just grows impatient and annoyed by her confessions, she agrees to marry mister Graham.

A while after, seeing Carol who, just like Louise, confesses her feelings to David, David starts dating her.

This bothers Louise although she tries to hide it.She starts hearing missus Graham's voice, and seeing things which aren't there.

I really enjoyed this movie, as I expected her to do what she did at the very end, at the beginning of the movie. Louise is torn between her feelings for David who might also be a gold digger, as he says to Louise he might marry Carol for her money, and the wish to be happy. Problem is,she can't be happy, probably also because he keeps on reappearing in her life, as if to taunt her, and on top of that, proposes to Carol, a 20 year old girl, thing he couldn't do with her. So, he's gonna be in her life, so close, but always unreachable, forever.

I liked the women's clothes, the beautiful houses and the interior design.

What I didn't like- the man two beautiful, young women fall for, is not attractive (to me) and looks old (the actor was 39 years old at the time, maybe 38 when they filmed, while he was playing a 35 year old; I kept on thinking he looks like her father or grandfather) , the 20 year old was in love with him her whole life, while he comes across as an old man dating a kid. He was also shallow, self centered, and unlikeable from the getgo. Also, how do you marry your friend's ,possibly best friend's daughter (?!),but maybe it wasn't an issue at the time.

The acting was good. I was embarrassed for Louise, as she kept on embarrassing herself in front of David with the things she was telling him, begging him to love her! And I hated David, as he came across as an awful man, who didn't care about her feelings. He tells her he doesn't love her the way she does him,and then he asks her why is she upset!

The soundtrack didn't bother me,as the music of this age is loud and annoying. They played the piano a bit ,which I didn't care about.

The movie received positive reviews, the critics praising Joan Crawford's acting who was even nominated for an Oscar for Best Actress, and grossed 3 million dollars at the box office, against a budget of almost 2.6 million.

The movie is for rent / sale on Amazon, AppleTv, Fandango at Home, Sky Store .
