The movie is based on the 1811 Jane Austen book of the same name, was directed by Ang Lee, while the screenplay was written by Emma Thompson.

The movie opens with Mr. Dashwood on his death bed, asking his elder son to take care of his younger sisters, from the second marriage, as per law they are not entitled to anything. Although at first he wants to give them something, his greedy and snobbish wife,Fanny, convinces him to only give them 500 British pounds a year.

They fast come to the estate, which passes on to him, while the old woman and her 3 daughters have to find somewhere else to live (this shows how insane the laws were at the time, always meant to favor the men, although the women are the ones giving birth,so they're the ones who know for sure who's their baby! ).

Fanny is proud of her younger brother coming to visit them, and wants Marianne to give him her room,as it has a better view. Her brother proves to be a gentleman, and refuses. He also seems to grow attached to the eldest sister, Elinor.

The nice sir John Middleton, cousin of the poor widow, and the girls' mother, offers them a small cottage house (a very beautiful idyllic home) on his estate in Devonshire . They all move in, and are constant guests at their estate Barton Park, as her cousin and his mother in law adore them, his mother in law trying to find them suitors.

Marianne makes a conquest in colonel Brandon, but she falls head over heels for John Willoughby.

When Lucy Steele comes to visit with the daughter and son in law of missus Jennings (sir John's mother in law),she befriends Elinor, and confesses to her she is engaged to Edward (the Edward Elinor loves in secret) for 5 years. I personally, although I read the book long ago, didn't remember much, and based on how Lucy was acting, I thought she was lying, as she always looked like the fake women who have an agenda behind their actions and words.

While Elinor suffers this in secret, Marianne suffers openly as her love interest leaves her and starts treating her like a stranger, as money are more important to him than love.

I personally enjoyed the movie. The lead characters were likeable, and relatable. The places (the landscapes) they filmed at were breathtaking beautiful, the houses astonishing, the interior design incredible, the clothes, especially the women's, nice to look at .

The movie was a hit, as it grossed 135 million dollars at the box office against a budget of 16 million!

It received 3 BAFTA awards and 11 nominations; and received 7 Oscars including for Best Picture and Best Actress,Emma Thompson winning the award for Best Adapted Screenplay too, along with the award for Best Actress.

The acting was good.

The soundtrack was good.
