The movie, directed by actor Tony Goldwyn, is based on the novel “Animal husbandry” by Laura Zigman, published in 1997.

Jane has this theory on to why men treat women the way they do (love them and leave them), after she read many books and articles on the subject. She alikens them to male cows, who according to her reading material do not do the nasty with the same cow for more than once (I looked it up and apparently this is not true)!

Jane was booking talent for the local New York talk-show Diane Roberts when she met Ray.

She always fights with the writer and producer of the show, Eddie, for she doesn’t like him for the simple fact of him being a womanizer, having slept with most of the women at work.

Ray is the new executive producer from Washington, and she is immediately attracted to him. She talks to her friend about it, and she decides to leave him be, as he has a girlfriend.

Ray asks her to have lunch with him, and tells her he’s been dating his girlfriend for 3 years.

Regardless, they start an affair, and after a month and a half he tells her that he loves her, and asks her to move in together, looking for apartments.

Jane is moving out of her apartment, and after Ray breaks up with his girlfriend, he is a changed man, as he didn’t like the fact she wasn’t devastated he broke up with her, and breaks up with Jane.

Left without a place to stay, Jane moves in with Eddie, as he was looking for a roommate for some time.

Eddie brings a lot of his one night stands home, but other than that, he seems like a nice guy, caring for Jane.

Jane, most of this time is devastated, crying after Ray, talking about her cow theory to whoever wants to listen, and her best friend who gets her heart broken by a guy who loved bombed her only to cheat on her, asks her to write an article about it in her magazine.

Jane doesn’t want to do it under her real name, so they come up with a fake persona.

I personally enjoyed the movie, and I liked how it was directed.

Eddie seems to slowly change once he gets to know Jane better. He stops sleeping around and goes to the New Year’s party alone, asking her to go with him. We find out he became a womanizer after a woman he loved and lived with left him, breaking his heart, and is afraid to ever feel that devastated again (he broke the bedroom wall when she left, so you’d have an idea of his mental state at the time).

Jane dated Ray for a month and a half and cried for 4 months over him. She almost got over him, when he asks her out again, only to blow her off again.

Ray seems like a guy who needs validation. It seems he likes to see the women he dated are crushed when he leaves them.

The acting was good.

I didn’t like the soundtrack.
