Synchronic
Year of release : 2019
Run time : 1h43min
Genre : Thriller / Sci Fi / Horror
Synchronic is a new drug which opens the pineal gland and takes the ones who take it through time- the past, more exactly. It kills the adults who have their pineal gland calcified, only teenagers can take it. Unluckily, the ones who take it end up with serious injuries from snake bites to deadly wounds,as the people from the past think them ghosts, are afraid of them and kill them. Depending on the place they are in or sit on,they go to a certain place in time. For example, one man was in the elevator and fell to his death in the desert.
The leading characters are two paramedics, one with a family, the other having one night stands. The latter finds out he is dying. He also finds out his pineal gland isn't calcified and is like a kid's.
How convenient, since the 18 year old daughter of his paramedic friend disappears after taking the drug.
So,he buys all the synchronic he can find and starts experimenting with it,trying to find her.
The actors were good, the visual effects the same..I loved how it was filmed, the rain going backwards in memories, the ambulance,as if in a dream or on a high. I liked how they played with the concept of time, how certain scenes are cut short and are played later on. They say through the voice of the creator of the drug that time is like a record,it's always there, the past is still there, still playing, and the people on Synchronic are the needle playing on the record.
Jamie Dornan was amazing! I only saw him in 50 Shades and Once Upon A Time, but don't remember him in the series to be honest, and he seemed so uncomfortable in 50 shades, but he was great in this one.
I liked the idea of the movie, but it felt like something was missing. The two paramedics were supposed to be friends but I didn't feel their bond, they felt apart, they didn't really share much. I think it would have made a difference if the father was doing the experiments,I don't know..it felt like maybe the heart was what was missing.
The movie is streaming on Kanopy,Hoopla and Netflix; and is for rent or sale on Amazon, Apple, Google, DirecTv, Microsoft, Redbox, Vudu, YouTube.
