The accidental husband

Doctor Emma Lloyd is a radio show host who gives women advice on love, just that it seems she doesn't know much about love, as she keeps on giving them advice on how to pick a "safe" guy who will never leave, as if you can predict when or if someone is going to leave you.

 

Sophia ,who is about to get married to a man she dates for 5 months now, calls the show, and after their conversation, calls off the wedding.(If she needed a stranger to tell her what to do, she didn't love him.When you love somebody, you don't care what others say or think,you do what you feel!)

Some time later, Patrick, the man Sophia was supposed to marry, is still stalking her from his fireman truck (this was a funny scene).

The kid of his best friend, who's house he lives in, tells him the good doctor is about to get married too. The kid, Ajay, tells him he should give her a piece of his mind, and forge marriage papers to look like the two of them are married. Convinced, he lets Ajay, who is a hacker, hack into the Marriage Registry and get them married.

At the Marriage Registry, Emma and her fiance, find out she is already married. She looks for Patrick, and when finding him, he keeps on avoiding the issue she's there for. He makes her drink, so she gets drunk, passing out, and waking up at his place. Without having him signing the divorce papers.

Patrick starts liking Emma, and keeps on showing up where she is, messing up her appointments, prolonging giving her the "divorce".

I personally didn't find it funny, just cliched and generic. The movie wasn't bad, but it wasn't good either. Colin Firth pretty much plays Darcy again, and I actually liked him (especially the stress eating scenes). What I didn't like was the fact his character gives up so easily, so our lead wouldn't look like the villain.

 

We find out why Emma is the way she is (due to her father) and why she gives women the advice she does,trying to protect them from a broken heart, playing it safe.

The acting was good, although the critics didn't like Uma Thurman. I thought her character was supposed to be uptight, and she slowly loosens up once she starts falling in love with Patrick.

The soundtrack was typical for these kind of romantic comedies. I didn't like it.

The movie was panned by critics who complained about the lack of chemistry between the actors and the acting.

The movie made only 22.7 million dollars at the box office,being released straight to DVD in the USA and Canada.
