The movie is loosely based on the book of the same name by Karen Salmansohn.
Matthew Taylor is supposed to be a relationship author, who wrote a book he is on tour promoting, giving lectures, trying to help people with their relationships. He is divorced, has a daughter, but as a relationship guide, he's not in a relationship.
Kristin is a therapist, who's been alone for 6 years and a half, and who's friends take her to one of Taylor's lectures. Kristin is not impressed, and tells him what's on her mind. Luckily for her, a producer of a show is in the audience, filming her, and calls her after, to invite her to a show Taylor is invited to.
This spawns a series of televised shows she's invited to, to counterargument his ideas.
Although she seems annoying, refuting his ideas, he seems to like her, and they have a weird relationship (because nothing ever happens, until the end, when we're supposed to believe they love each other, but we didn't see anything of that sort, we didn't see him looking at her a certain way, touching her in a certain way..etc..)
Like in all romances, there's the misunderstanding, but before that is the almost being together, which he promptly gets out of, as she tells him she is falling for him!
See, the relationship guru refuses to be in a relationship because one morning, his wife just told him she didn't love him and wanted a divorce! At the end they even double down on that, the ex wife telling him she never actually loved him!!! Why did she marry him, then?! ( what annoyed me is that Shemar is playing the guy in question and he looks amazing, and we're supposed to believe women would just be with him without being in love with him!! Not to mention his ex wife's hubby doesn't even come close to Shemar! There's a scene in which they are both on screen, and it's obvious who's the hunk and who every woman would fall for! This is just ridiculous!)
I personally hated the movie, it was mediocre at best. At one point, when the leads get together, they forget Kristin has been alone for 6 years and a half, and she keeps on saying 6 years now, although the montage of them going to shows promoting his book feels like they've been on the road for 6 months! We find out later it's only been a month! So she should have said 7 years!
The dialogue was bad, and sometimes I got second hand embarrassment from the lines and situations.
The acting was sometimes bad in my opinion, sometimes Ok. I think that I might have had that impression because the music didn't match at all the scenes.
I felt the soundtrack was mismatched, as in, it didn't match what was on the screen, and it went on and on when it should have been silent, and was silence when music should have been on. It didn't match the actors' vibe, their energy - at times they were so hyped up and the music was just mellow! Or when they were saying things meant to be funny, the music again, didn't match the vibe, and the jokes fell flat!
One thing I liked about it was the outfits the lead actress had and the ex wife. Another, and the reason I watched this ,was Shemar Moore.
The movie had a budget of 3 million dollars and made only a little over 421.000 at the box office.
The movie is free with ads on The Roku Channel, 30 days free on Amazon Prime, Amazon Prime with Ads, for rent / sale on Amazon, AppleTv, Fandango at Home.
