The Giver is based on The Giver book by Lois Lowry.

Jonas lives in a dystopian world in which people are injected daily to numb the emotions so everyone would look the same and feel the same. The movie even starts in black and white as people don't see colors anymore, and Jonas is the only one who every once in a while, sees color, and gets shocked by it.

Just like in Divergent, they all wear the same color clothes, like uniforms. They are assigned a job once they come of age,as in,one can be a birthing mother her whole life, one can take care of the kids, and so on.

Kids are assigned to families which are called family units, after is considered safe,as people have no idea what love,a kiss or making love is.

Killing people, even babies - they kill one of the twins if such cases exist - because there can't be two people with the same face - it's called "release ". The people who do this don't even know they are killing innocent babies just because they have the same face!

Jonas is selected as the new giver, because he has all four qualities of the representative castes, and until he becomes the Giver, while he is in training, he's the Receiver. He receives memories of the world from the old giver in an attempt to keep the history alive in their mind so their society wouldn't repeat it again. Problem is, no one is allowed to know these things.

Their society is not allowed to tell lies, the Giver and Receiver are the only ones allowed to lie.

As he learns more about how the world was, and starts missing his morning injections he sees the world in color and starts realizing that what he feels for his female friend is love.

I actually liked this movie, the acting was great,so were the visuals.

This was the second time I watched this movie, I watched it before, years ago, and I found it boring, didn't like it. But now I saw it through different eyes, and understood the movie is filled with emotion, emotion which comes at Jonas as he experiences the joy of a wedding or of a dance and the heartbreak of war.

The characters seem dull because they are all dulled down by the injections and are unable to feel and experience the world normally. The movie is an emotionless dystopia which floods the viewer and the leading character through the Giver with emotion.

The Giver is streaming on Netflix, and is for rent or buy on Amazon Video, AMC on Demand, Apple iTunes, DirecTv, Google Play Movies, Microsoft Store, Redbox, Vudu, YouTube.
