In 50 BC Abyssinia, a princess who didn’t want to marry her betrothed uses a pair of magic earrings to switch bodies with her handmaiden.
In 2002, Jessica, a beautiful teenager, likes to prank people, her latest victim being Hildenburg, who is a bit overweight and wants to be a cheerleader. So she has her dressed in the other team’s outfit, so their peers would boo her and mock her. After, she makes fun of a student who got an A for she looks like a witch.
She warms up to the principle to write passes for her and her friends for cheerleading practice.
She uses her beauty to get free drinks for her and her friends.
Shopping, she puts a pair of bikinis in her nemesis’ bag, so she would get arrested. One would say she’s not a nice person.
Going shopping, she sees a pair of earrings she likes that are not for sale, so she changes them with another pair in the box, buying them.
Going to the gas station, she makes fun of the man she thinks works there, but he was the criminal r0bbing the place. One of her earrings fall on the ground, and the cr1iminal finds it.
Jessica has a best friend, April, with whom she has a secret song they sing. She also has a boyfriend whom she thinks only wants one thing from her, so she refuses to go to second base with him.
At night, she confesses to April she has a perfect life, while wearing the earring. The criminal also puts on the earring he found on the floor.
Going to sleep, she wakes up as a man, and freaks out. She goes to see April who thinks her a man who hits on her. She finally wins her trust by telling her things about herself and their friendship only she knows,and singing their secret song.
April decides to help Jessica, taking her in. They also tell their other close friends, and they tell Jessica, who thinks everybody loves her, people hate her for the things she says and does to them.
Jessica goes back home, as the man she is now, and her father sees her, thinking her the gardener he hired. Working for her father, she gets to spend time with him, and finds out things about her parents’ relationship.
Her and her friends go talk to Hildenburg, and the witch girl, but they say they had nothing to do with her transformation, and they actually befriend. The Wiccan girl,Eden, knows a bit about these kind of spells, which leads them to think Bianca, Jessica’s nemesis, put a spell on her. Which leads them to the club, where’s “Ladies’ night”.
Dancing with Bianca, Jessica realizes it’s not her. She also takes Eden’s side, when a boy is being rude to her, ending up fighting him and winning.
Jessica is also trying to convince Billy it’s her, but he wants nothing to do with her as a man.
April starts falling for Jessica as a man, as she seems the perfect guy.
Eden looks for information on the net, about what happened to Jessica, and finds information on the earrings. Going back to the store she got them from, the clerk tells them about princess Nawa, who ended up living her whole life as a slave girl for not knowing she had to reunite the earrings before the full moon end.
The girls put ads everywhere, trying to find the lost earring.
April’s mother is onto them, but whenever she tells something to April’s father, the man thinks her insane.
Jessica’s little brother notices the gardener is acting like his sister, too.
I personally enjoyed the movie, it’s one of my favorites. Rob Schneider cracks me up every time.
The characters have growth, as Jessica learns to see beyond people’s appearance, and gets to know her family better, learns her boyfriend really loves her, and makes new friends enriching her circle, changing her mean ways, becoming a better person.
The acting was good.
The soundtrack was Ok.
The movie received negative reviews from critics, but a good score from the audiences.
Cinema Score audiences graded it a B+.
The movie grossed 54 million dollars against a budget of 34 million.
