Uncharted

Year of release : 2022

Run time : 1h56min

Genre : Action / Adventure

Cast : Mark Wahlberg, Tom Holland, Antonio Banderas

The movie is adapted from the Uncharted video game franchise released in 2007.

The movie starts with an action scene filmed in the air ( probably in front of the green or blue screen ),while off an airplane, as the leading character wakes up caught in the cargo which is pulled by the flying plane, which was apparently taken from the video game. He also has this ridiculous fight in the air ,jumping around the cargo boxes, which looks amazing and would have made sense if he had superpowers or was in the Matrix, but as a normal guy,I doubt anyone can pull it off.

Right after, we're taken down memory lane, quite a few years into the past (15 to be more precise) to meet the young lead and his brother, who are into treasure hunting.

His brother disappears on him, as they were into the job of stealing things, and he didn't want to go to jail.

In the present, Victor Sullivan looks him up, asking him to help him find the lost treasure of Magellan. Because he was friends with his brother, sort of.. At first,Drake refuses ( he didn't have much to look forward too, either, he was a bartender who was stealing from the rich),but the perspective of following his brother's footsteps, finding a treasure they both spent their childhood dreaming about, makes him accept the offer.

Apparently the first time I watched the movie I enjoyed it, but now it bored me. It became repetitive and annoying seeing how they kept on double crossing each other, and how no one could be trusted.

Chloe Frazer was annoying, always given opportunities ,and always betraying them, even after Drake saved her life!

I liked the action scenes although they fit better a movie like the Matrix or Spider-Man.

Problem was, that paying attention to details the movie is not so great anymore. Like, for example, this temple that no one found for centuries, was right next to a club! They literally went inside through the club!

The acting was good. Antonio Banderas was wasted on this movie. He had a small role that anyone could have played.

The villainess of the movie is unattractive and mean ,a bad combination.

The soundtrack was good.

The visual effects were good.

The movie has been in the works since 2008!

Uncharted received mixed reviews (with critics reviews under 50 on Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic, but higher audience reviews, 6.1 on Metacritic and 89 on Rotten Tomatoes!), and grossed a little over 407 million dollars at the box office, against a 120 million dollars budget, being the 4th highest grossing movie based on a video game at the time of its release and the 8th highest grossing movie based on a video game to date.

Cinema Score audiences graded it a B+.

In June 2024 a sequel was confirmed.

Rating : Could have been a contender !
