Just days before Christmas, Emily Blunt's character finds an add written by hand on the campus' Ride Board, trying to hitch a ride home.

A student at the same college is going the same way,and on the day in question, she is late(two hours!). She also comes with an attitude. She comments on his car,and leaves his bag in the middle of the road,to make room for her luggage.

She is rude, instead of talking to him,she talks on the phone about him,to her friend. She then has the amazing idea of doing her nails while he is driving(I kept on imagining how it must have smelled, that nail polish in the whole car,for hours!)

They have an interesting conversation about Nietzsche's myth of eternal recurrence, when you live the exact same life over and over again, which was the last question on the philosophy exam they took. This will later be important in the plot.

She also needs to go to the bathroom,so he stops at a gas station. She just had her nails done, so the boy carries her inside the gas station.

She has a scare there,as she gets locked in the bathroom.

From a conversation they have in the car, when she's doing her nails, about corrective laser eye surgery,it becomes apparent the boy likes her. And he might have liked her for a while.

Seeing how she's rude, and complains about everything, the boy decides to take a scenic route, which is also supposed to be faster.

Asking questions,as this move scared her,the girl starts suspecting the boy of nefarious intent.

A crazy driver is driving their way, coming right at them,so they crash, trying to avoid the car.

They wake up on the side of the road,in the middle of nowhere, and the boy seems to be wounded.

Stranded,at night,in the middle of nowhere, these people start appearing from time to time, and they realize they are ghosts. Most of them are harmless, but there is one,a police officer, who wants to harm them. Whenever he appears,a certain song accompanies him on the radio. Whenever he is harmed, things reset, making it obvious he is the one behind everything.

This was,and still is, one of my favorite movies,Ashton being one of my favorite actors. I like that it has heart, through the boy who obviously loves the girl(the bag she left behind had all of her favorite foods in it!),keeps on protecting her,and in the end comes back for her SPOILER although he's dead. I think he comes back for her out of love, but also, because he felt responsible for them being stranded there, and everything else happening, being his fault, for taking the detour.

I also got the feeling that in the last scene, her looking at the picture she took of him,she now saw him through different eyes, and that picture was a reminder of how she previously thought of him. I also got the sense that what went on between them would haunt her her whole life,as she stated she could never connect with anyone, and he was probably the only one who broke through her shell.

I like that watching this movie you get to learn things, like about the eternal recurrence and the FM waves traveling in straight lines unable to penetrate big hills!

The movie doesn't have many characters,it's pretty much the two leads most of the time,in the middle of the frosted forest, but it doesn't feel like it needs more people, like some movies do.

The actors were great, from the leads to the ones playing the smallest roles.

I loved the soundtrack, written by Clint Mansell, especially the song which opens and closes the movie. They are pretty much the same,in the beginning hinting at things to come,in the end pondering upon the conclusion; and it's so sad and melancholy, matching the vibe of the movie, the conversations about the myth of the eternal return and the boy trying desperately to be seen by the girl he loved.
